Our Story - Digital Pioneering in the Heart of Zermatt
Welcome to our journey. For over 15 years, we have been redefining ICT, building automation, and Software as a Service. What began as a vision in web design has evolved into the driving technological force behind unique workplaces and smart infrastructures across the Zermatt destination. Dive into our milestones and discover how we are shaping the digital future of the region.
Long before the company was officially founded, Oliver Borter and Adrian Perren laid the foundation. As early as 1998, Adrian secured the domain Web-Net-Design.ch. From this initial concept, a concrete vision named Web Net Data emerged in 2004. Registering the domain wnd.ch established the bedrock for today’s technology company.
What started among friends quickly gained massive momentum. Our innovative solutions met with an exceptional response in the market. WND successfully executed its first professional business projects, ranging from corporate websites and ISDN high-speed installations to pioneering VoIP telephony solutions.
The demand for modern ICT infrastructure exploded. To meet these growing requirements and build a solid foundation for the future, taking the step toward independence was the logical next move. This marked the birth of WND AG.
Not just surfing the web, but actively building the network. By establishing its own fiber-optic and network structures, WND AG became an independent provider. To this day, we supply the region with ultra-fast, reliable connectivity for internet, TV, and telephony, serving everything from hotels and commercial properties to multi-family homes.
Great visions require strong minds. Just one year after our founding, an excellent order volume enabled our first three full-time hirings. We are particularly proud that two of these original team members remain a valuable part of our crew today.
We do not believe in "impossible." Where others walk away, the WND team truly thrives. In 2015, we demonstrated real hands-on mentality by connecting even the most remote alpine huts using state-of-the-art fixed-wireless technology. This milestone proves that we go to great heights to satisfy individual customer needs.
It had long been clear to us that the future of building automation lies in smart networking, not just for private households, but for the hospitality industry and commercial sectors alike. As early as 2015, we implemented our first smart projects and established Loxone as the core solution for modern building automation.
Traditional TV was yesterday. Driven by a specific customer need, we installed our very first TV systems featuring interactive software. This was the opening spark for a true success story in hospitality tech.
Our company successfully consolidated its position in the market, winning over clients with services perfectly tailored to their needs. This innovative momentum was reflected internally as well, as the WND team grew to seven specialists by 2016.
You do not just find the workforce of tomorrow, you train them. In 2018, our first apprentice started his career with us. Today, we are a proud training company, continuously developing young talents in the forward-looking professions of IT specialists, building informatics engineers, and mediamatics specialists.
Because existing software solutions on the market could not meet our high standards, we simply built it ourselves. Leveraging our combined in-house software development expertise, we created myWND TV, an interactive, customized software that continues to set benchmarks in user experience today.
WND continues to grow and flourish. With our team expanding to 16 employees and our need for logistics and workspace increasing significantly, we moved into our new headquarters at Bachstrasse 72 in Zermatt. At the time, this location offered the ideal solution to drive our expansion forward.
A major anniversary that we celebrated extensively with our clients and the entire team. This success would not have been possible without the support of our loyal employees, partners, and customers. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who has accompanied and supported us along the way.
Some impressive facts after more than 10 years:
- Employees: 26
- Customers: 492
- Fiber optic links: 135
- Point-to-point radio links: 80
- Signage screens: 100
- Installed TVs: 1,250
To meet the massive demand for intelligent real estate, we bundled our expertise into a dedicated unit for Building Management Systems. From smart holiday apartments to the complex networking of major hotels, we have since been offering comprehensive control, monitoring, and energy optimization from a single source.
The logical expansion of our ecosystem came right from our own ranks. Our software team developed the myWND App. It digitalizes the interface between guest and host and can be managed seamlessly through the exact same intuitive CMS as our TV software.
Patience pays off. Following an intensive approval process, our first fully electric WND car is now rolling through Zermatt. This means grueling transport efforts with bicycle trailers in snow and rain are a thing of the past. Instead, we now deliver our hardware comfortably, emissions-free, and independent of the weather.
Hard work brings rewards. After successfully realizing numerous major projects, we ascended to the absolute top tier. WND is now an official Loxone Platinum Partner. This places us among the very few top representatives in Switzerland and makes us the exclusive partner in the Zermatt and Upper Valais region for high-end building automation.
Since our expertise is increasingly sought after outside the car-free zone of Zermatt, we have expanded our mobility. Two new, eco-friendly Teslas ensure that we are now lightning-fast and highly sustainable when visiting our clients down in the valley.
Our software ecosystem continues to scale. With myWND Monitoring, we are launching our latest product, which operates as an intelligent meter and ancillary cost monitoring system with integrated billing capabilities. We record and calculate any measurable consumption, whether for heating, electricity, hot water, cold water, washing machines, or electric vehicle charging stations. Synced directly to the respective meters, the app ensures a completely transparent and straightforward generation of the entire utility bill.
As our company experiences continuous expansion, we are leaving our basecamp at Bachstrasse 72. WND AG is moving right into the center of Zermatt at Hofmattstrasse 7. This new location offers us significantly more space and highly flexible premises to provide the perfect environment for our growing team and increasing logistical demands.
Technology changes rapidly and we evolve right along with it. We remain curious, courageous, and invest day in and day out into the best solutions for our customers.
Stay tuned to see which milestones we will write next!
